Summer International School Course Selection Notice for the School of Management in 2024

To promote the construction of "Double First-Class" disciplines, promote the internationalization of the school, and enhance the international influence of the school, the School of Management will launch the 2024 Summer International School from July 1 to August 26, 2024. This year, a total of 9 experts from well-known overseas universities have been invited to offer 9 courses, which are open to all undergraduate and graduate students on campus.

Course Selection Process

All students enter the academic affairs system for course selection, which is divided into regular selection and supplementary selection. Regular selection starts at 9:00 on June 11, 2024, and ends at 14:00 on June 14, 2024. Supplementary selection starts at 9:00 on June 17, 2024, and ends at 17:00 on June 19, 2024. 1. Optimization Theory Methods and Applications

Course Introduction

This course focuses on exact optimization methods, including deterministic and stochastic optimization methods. By introducing the most commonly used and effective optimization methods in the field of management decision-making to students, it helps students master the modeling of management decision-making problems and apply optimization methods to solve them.

Instructor Biography

Haoxun Chen is a tenured professor at the University of Technology of Troyes, France, and also a member of the board of directors of the French National Center for Packaging and Logistics Research, responsible for several European Community and French projects in the field of supply chain management and logistic decision-making. He mainly engages in research in the fields of supply chain management, production operations, and logistics optimization, having published over 140 academic papers in journals such as IEEE Tran., Omega, EJOR, IJPR, and has long served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Industrial Engineering.

2. International Marketing

Course Introduction

This course will introduce marketing in an international context. It provides students with knowledge and understanding of marketing issues in the development of global marketing activities, as well as the role of marketing in society when organizations seek profitable relationships. It enables students to confidently analyze related challenges and seek feasible solutions that help solve marketing problems to promote the global marketing objectives of organizations.

Instructor Biography

Hang Haiming is a professor of marketing at the University of Bath, UK. He has over 10 years of experience in university teaching and research. He serves as a doctoral supervisor, has led research centers, and has applied for funds exceeding 9 million pounds, participating in UK education fund cooperation projects. He has published numerous papers in international core journals. His teaching fields are marketing, international management, and market research. His research directions include consumer behavior, advertising, corporate creativity, sensory marketing, new technology marketing, and social media.

3. Marketing Strategy

Course Introduction

This course mainly explores the latest research directions in the field of marketing strategy as well as classic research theories. It conducts in-depth research and discussion on related research directions, commonly used research methods, and paper writing, etc.

Instructor Biography

Wang Xinchun is an associate professor of marketing at the Chambers College of Business, West Virginia University. His research direction is marketing strategy and corporate innovation. He also serves as a reviewer for SSCI journals such as Industrial Marketing Management, Entrepreneurship Research Journal, and Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing.

4. Organization and Strategic Theory

Course Introduction

This course introduces relevant theories related to organizational and strategic management, including resource dependence theory, institutional theory, agency theory, population ecology theory, stakeholder theory, signaling theory, etc.

Instructor Biography

Jun Xia is a professor of strategic management at the Jindal School of Management, University of Texas at Dallas. He has in-depth thinking and research in the fields of organizational theory, transnational strategy, corporate mergers and acquisitions, corporate alliances, and the development of enterprises in emerging countries. His research results are widely cited in the field of international strategic management.

5. Business Process Analysis

Course Introduction

This course aims to cultivate students' understanding of important business processes and their contributions to any departmental organization. It will cultivate students' skills in solving various problems, such as decision-making, analysis, and applying theory through practical exercises and case studies.

Instructor Biography

Professor Liangfeng Zhang has been teaching at IESEG School of Management in Lille-Paris, France, since 2011, teaching various courses in English, such as management science, inventory management, sustainable supply chain management, operations management, quality control, etc. Students include undergraduates and graduates. Countries where he has taught include France, the Netherlands, Singapore, Austria, and China. His research focus is on sustainable operations and supply chain management.

6. Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development

Course Introduction

This course aims to enable students to master the basic principles of corporate sustainable development and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Participants should learn the basic concepts of corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility, as well as related concepts such as corporate citizenship, ESG, sustainable development goals, stakeholder engagement.

Instructor Biography

Professor Hongwei He is a chaired professor at the Alliance Manchester Business School and a member of the College Senior Leadership Team as the Dean of the Social Responsibility Institute. His main research areas are business ethics and corporate social responsibility, consumer psychology and organizational behavior (mainly from the perspectives of identity, emotion, and morality), and leadership.

7. International Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Course Introduction

This course aims to make students aware of the importance of logistics and supply chain management in the global business environment and how to improve the competitive advantage of organizations through effective logistics and supply chain management. The course covers a range of topics from supply chain strategic planning to procurement, production, distribution, and final customer service.

Instructor Biography

Professor Shi Yangyan is a Chartered Fellow of CILT, Director of the Master of Commerce in Supply Chain Management at Macquarie University, Australia, Director of the Academic Consistency Committee, doctoral supervisor, Distinguished (Visiting) Professor of Tianjin, and a member of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region University Research Fund Review Committee. He mainly engages in research in operations management, logistics management, and supply chain management, having published over 90 journal papers (including 2 highly cited papers).

8. Operations Management

Course Introduction

This course introduces the basic principles and laws of managing and operating various industries, covering manufacturing, services, and retail.

Instructor Biography

Yin Yong is currently a professor at the Graduate School of Business, Doshisha University, Japan, and serves as the editor-in-chief of the international journal Asian Journal of Management Science and Applications and several other international journal associate editors. He has published more than 50 papers in journals such as Journal of Operations Management, OMAGA, European Journal of Operational Research, etc., and has received 8 best paper awards from Journal of Operations Management, Decision Science Institution, International Conference Production Research, etc. Professor Yin Yong serves as an overseas review expert for national talents and the chairman of the Asian Association of Management Science and Applications.

9. Business Data Analysis Without Programming

Course Introduction

This course explores advanced topics in computer information systems and/or quantitative methods. It provides students with a professional, practical business analysis vocabulary, the technical foundation of business analysis hardware, software, and concepts. It provides basic knowledge of data exploration, manipulation, and visualization using no-code visual programming.

Instructor Biography

Tang Zhen Ya is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Information Systems at the Monfort College of Business, University of Northern Colorado, USA, and holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Mississippi State University. His research mainly focuses on the management of artificially intelligent algorithms and the use of social media services in various fields (such as marketing, public management, cybersecurity, sustainable development, etc.). He has published numerous papers in journals such as Information & Management, Government Information Quarterly, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, and International Journal of Information Management.
