On the afternoon of May 29, Assistant Professor Yan Shibang from the University of Hong Kong was invited by the School of Management at Northwestern Polytechnical University to give an academic report titled "Opportunities and Pain Points of ESG Research in Management Journal Publications." This report was the 11th installment of the School of Management's 2024 Overseas Lecture Series, presided over by Associate Professor Huang Zhen, with the participation of over 50 faculty and students from the School of Management.

At the beginning of the lecture, Yan Shibang shared his own educational journey and the reasons for choosing to study management. He detailed the process of publishing his first article and advised students to read and study English literature carefully, and to set long-term academic goals. Subsequently, Yan Shibang shared his writing experience regarding the background, conclusions, and theoretical contributions of articles, and patiently answered specific questions students encountered in their writing. Finally, Yan Shibang shared his submission strategies and insights during the journal publication process, analyzing the focus and submission techniques of top-tier journals in the fields of strategy and organizational management, such as ASQ (Academy of Management Review), SMJ (Strategic Management Journal), AMJ (Academy of Management Journal), AMR (Academy of Management Review), OS (Organization Science), JIBS (Journal of International Business Studies), and MS (Management Science).

After the lecture, the attending faculty and students engaged in an in-depth exchange and discussion with Yan Shibang. Huang Zhen summarized the academic report and once again expressed gratitude to Yan Shibang for his wonderful presentation. All participants benefited greatly from the report, gaining a deeper understanding and knowledge of ESG research and the publication in management journals.

Yan Shibang is currently an assistant professor at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong. He serves as the Associate Editor of "Organization & Environment" and the Senior Editor of "Management and Organization Review". His main research interests include ESG, political economy, and organizational theory. His research findings have been published in international top-tier and renowned academic journals such as "Administrative Science Quarterly," "Organization Science," and "Journal of International Business Studies."
