[Academic Report] The academic report by Professor Ginger Y. Ke from Memorial University of Newfoundland was successfully held.

On the afternoon of April 11, 2024, Professor Ginger Y. Ke from the Faculty of Business, Memorial University of Newfoundland, was invited to give an academic report titled "Managing Emergency Logistics for Hazardous Materials" in the 214 lecture hall of the School of Management. The report was chaired by Professor Hong Zhaofu, the head of the Department of Business Administration, with some faculty members and graduate students from the School of Management in attendance.

Firstly, Ke Yi introduced major hazardous material incidents that have occurred around the world, highlighting the necessity of establishing an emergency response system for hazardous materials. She then presented current research findings on hazardous materials emergency management from various perspectives, including game theory and robust optimization. Subsequently, Ke Yi detailed her independent research on a two-stage robust optimization scheme for hazardous materials emergency logistics. This included model development and solution algorithms, and she used a real case study and data analysis from Daojiao Town in Guangdong Province to explain her research conclusions. Ke Yi pointed out six future research directions, including the integration of transportation networks and emergency networks, and collaboration between different emergency networks.

In conclusion, Professor Hong Zhaofu summarized the report, and Ke Yi provided detailed answers to questions from the attending faculty and students. She also offered specific advice on how to conduct research for doctoral students. This report was the 4th session of the 2024 Overseas Lecture Series by the School of Management, providing new research ideas for the faculty and students present, and everyone gained a lot from it.

Introduction to the Speaker:

Dr. Ginger Y. Ke (Ke Yi) obtained her Master's degree in Systems Engineering and Ph.D. in Management Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada. She is currently a professor (Master's and Ph.D. supervisor) at the Faculty of Business, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and also holds adjunct professor positions in the Department of Management Science at the University of Waterloo and the Department of Mechanical, Automotive, and Materials Engineering at the University of Windsor in Canada. Her research projects were funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) in 2015 and 2022. Throughout her academic and professional career, she has published nearly 70 papers in renowned international journals and conference proceedings and has given over 40 research presentations at various international academic conferences. Her research covers decision theory, game theory, operations research, logistics, and supply chain management.
