The school of management ofNorthwestern Polytechnical Universityhas a long history, with two branches. In 1990, with the approval of the former Ministry of aerospace industry, it was set up by mergence of the China Equipment Management Training Center established in 1984 and the Management Department established in 1985.

Since its establishment, Northwestern Polytechnical University has carried out management education and research. In the 1950s, it opened the courses of "enterprise organization and planning" and "modern enterprise management". In 1982, the management specialty began to officially recruit and train master's students. In 1983, it was approved to establish the master's program of "aviation system engineering and management engineering", and the management department was established in 1985.

China Equipment Management Training Center was established in NPU in May 1984 with the approval of the former State Economic Commission and the Ministry of aviation industry to meet the training needs of equipment management professionals in industrial enterprises after the national reform and opening up. Since 1987, China Equipment Management Training Center and Manage Department have jointly trained MBA with Lancaster University, Keele University and hull University in the UK. It is one of the earliest joint MBA programs in China.

Over the years, the construction and development of the college have been concerned, guided and supported by the school and superior departments. Three school leaders have served as the dean of the college, promoting the rapid development of the college.

Constant improvement of the discipline layout: there are five departments in SOM: management science and engineering department, business administration department, information management department, marketing department and accounting department. It has formed a multi-level discipline system with management science and engineering and business administration as the core, including many secondary disciplines, from bachelor's degree, master's degree (including professional degree) to doctor's degree. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation of the Ministry of education, the discipline of management science and engineering was rated as B +, and the discipline of business administration was rated as B -. In the ranking of world-class discipline management of soft science, it ranked 301-400 in the world.

Continuous optimization of the teaching staff:SOM has 90 full-time teachers, including 30 professors and 43 associate professors (1 foreigner), more than 94% of the teachers have doctoral degrees, and more than 80% of the teachers have overseas study and visiting experience.

At present, the school has 1 "leading talent support plan for philosophy and Social Sciences" of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, 1 lecture professor of the national talent plan of the Ministry of education, 1 cultural master and "four groups" talent of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, 1 young scholar of the national talent plan of the Ministry of education, 1 "young top talent" of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, 4 "excellent talents in the new century" of the Ministry of education, and "national accounting leader (reserve) 1 talent (Academic), 1 young top talent of Shaanxi "special support plan", 3 candidates of Shaanxi talent plan (short-term innovation), 3 young talents of Humanities and Social Sciences in Shaanxi universities, and 1 young outstanding talent of Shaanxi universities.

The school also employs a large number of scholars from famous universities at home and abroad and experts from enterprises and institutions as part-time or lecture professors, forming a teaching team dominated by full-time teachers in the University and supplemented by famous university scholars at home and abroad and well-known experts from enterprises and institutions.

Continuous improvement of talent training quality:SOM has 649 undergraduate students (including 109 international students), 377 master's students (including 49 international students) and 236 doctoral students (including 25 international students). The college adheres to the fundamental task of " Morality Education ", carries out in-depth discussion on talent training, adheres to the concept of "branding, specialization and creativity", and carries out the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality. The college has set up the "second classroom activity" as a good platform for students' quality education, focusing on psychological adaptation counseling, psychological quality development and other activities for mental health education. It has created a series of activities with novel forms and brand influence. Constantly innovate the work forms of student party construction and ideological and political education, strive to build a practical platform for the role of student party branches as fighting fortresses and the vanguard and exemplary role of Party members, and organize student party branches to perform special service functions. On the basis of closely combining classroom teaching, cultivate students' understanding and application ability of professional knowledge by means of competition, encourage, organize and guide students to participate in various international (National) college students' competitions, promote learning by competition, stimulate students' innovative thinking, and cultivate students' independent thinking consciousness and teamwork spirit.

So far, the school has trained more than 7000 graduates. The college makes full use of its discipline advantages and high-quality resources to provide continuing education and other services for the government, enterprises and institutions. Since the 1980s, the college has been a training base for senior management cadres of China's large and medium-sized enterprises entrusted by the government, and has trained more than 8000 senior management cadres of all kinds. Among the alumni, there are more than 50 leading cadres at the provincial and ministerial levels, government departments and bureaus and national large and medium-sized enterprises. A large number of outstanding alumni have become leaders and pillar talents in all walks of life. They are all over the world, which not only reflects the school running level, talent training quality and graduate quality of the college, but also further expands the influence of the college on the society.

Steady enhancement of the scientific research ability: SOM is committed to the innovation of management theory and serving management practice. In recent years, more than 100 scientific research projects above the provincial and ministerial level, such as National Natural Science Foundation projects and national social science foundation projects, have been added, and more than 200 high-level journal papers have been published. It has won 18 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards and published more than 20 monographs and translations. The college actively connects with the national strategy, guides teachers to actively serve the development of national defense science, technology and industry, and forms characteristic research fields and directions. It has undertaken important management consulting topics such as "Research on management innovation mode of COMAC" and "Research on innovation of management system of a new aircraft development project". Relevant research results have been applied in national major projects such as "Shenzhou spacecraft" and "large aircraft", and achieved remarkable economic benefits.

Relying on China (double law) Project Management Research Committee, Shaanxi Emergency Management Society, Military Civilian Integration Development Strategy Research Center and other research institutions, the school has carried out social services focusing on important issues of scientific and technological innovation management and economic and social development, and achieved remarkable economic and social benefits.

Rapid development of international exchanges and cooperation: SOM attaches importance to international exchanges and cooperation and actively develops contact channels with foreign universities and research institutions. He joined the China Europe Business School Alliance (ACE) as a founding member in 2013 and the European Management Development Fund (EFMD) in 2014. In 2013, four project management degree education projects passed the certification of the Global Project Management Degree Education Accreditation Center (GAC) of the American Project Management Association (PMI) and officially became AACSB at the end of 2019 (the association to Advance Collegiate Schools of business) Members.
