On the morning of November 7, 2024, the School of Management invited Professor Steven Dellaportas from Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University to give an academic lecture titled "Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting: Fact or Fiction?" in Lecture Hall 214 of the School of Management at Chang'an Campus. This lecture was the 27th session of the School of Management's 2024 Overseas Expert Series Lectures, presided over by Associate Professor Tian Haowen, with more than 20 graduate and undergraduate students from the college in attendance.

Professor Steven Dellaportas's lecture centered on the topic of Interdisciplinary Research (IDR) in the field of accounting. He provided a brief introduction to the three levels of IDR: multidisciplinary research, interdisciplinary research, and transdisciplinary research. By analyzing 1,462 articles published in top interdisciplinary accounting journals between 2005 and 2016, Steven Dellaportas demonstrated the actual state of interdisciplinary research in the accounting field to the faculty and students. Additionally, Steven Dellaportas discussed the impact of IDR on citation counts. He indicated that while interdisciplinary research might face citation challenges due to its novelty in the initial stages, in the long term, as the research matures and gains recognition, its citation volume is expected to increase.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Professor Steven Dellaportas engaged in an extensive interactive exchange with the attending faculty and students, providing new insights and sparking fresh considerations regarding interdisciplinary research in the field of accounting.
