On the afternoon of October 19, 2024, at the invitation of the School of Management, Dr. Haiyan Jiang from Macquarie University, Australia, conducted an academic exchange with the faculty and students at the School of Management, presenting an academic lecture titled "Strategies for Publishing and Writing in International Accounting Journals" in Lecture Hall 210. This lecture was the 25th session of the School of Management's 2024 Overseas Lecture Series, chaired by Professor Su Kun, the head of the Accounting Department, with the participation of some teachers and graduate students from the Accounting Department of the School of Management.
Dr. Haiyan Jiang shared her strategies for publishing English articles with the attendees. She stated that strategy is a plan designed to achieve specific goals, and that publishing a high-quality English article can take a total of 2-7 years. Regarding how to choose target journals, Dr. Jiang mentioned the following points: (1) Do not select journals that you have not understood or read, or journals that are not cited in your papers as target journals; (2) It is recommended to collaborate with colleagues on articles; (3) Establish your reputation by publishing articles in a few journals before expanding to others; (4) Consider the impact factor of the journal. Additionally, Dr. Jiang shared how to test new ideas: (1) Discuss with the editor-in-chief; (2) Submit an outline or draft; (3) Attend conferences for exchanges; (4) Discuss with trusted colleagues or experts.
At the end of the lecture, Dr. Jiang discussed with the attendees how to write the introduction section of English articles, including the purpose of the introduction, its importance, format, when to start writing, and the writing process.
The lecture sparked widespread discussion among the attendees, who communicated with Dr. Jiang about the content of the lecture. Professor Su Kun summarized the lecture. Dr. Jiang specializes in international accounting research, with research areas including financial reporting quality, capital markets, and governance issues in accounting and auditing. She also focuses on the impact of regulatory changes in different countries and their unique institutional contexts on corporate reporting, information quality, and auditing. Dr. Jiang has published multiple papers in top international accounting journals, including the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Accounting Horizons, Journal of International Accounting Research, Abacus, European Accounting Review, and the British Accounting Review, among others.
