[Academic Report] Professor Gao Ning from the University of Manchester is invited to give an academic lecture at the School of Management.

On the morning of May 13, 2024, at the invitation of the School of Management, Professor Gao Ning from the University of Manchester delivered an academic lecture titled "New Energy Policies and Cash Value" in the School of Management's Lecture Hall 214. This lecture was the eighth installment of the School of Management's 2024 Overseas Lecture Series, presided over by Associate Professor Huang Zhen, with the participation of some faculty, students, and graduate students from the school.

At the beginning of the lecture, Gao Ning provided a detailed introduction to the background of the topic of this paper. Starting from the global context of climate warming, he elaborated on the efforts and policies of various countries. On the other hand, he explained the importance of new energy policies in ensuring energy security from the perspective of their purpose. Subsequently, Gao Ning explained the background and reasons for selecting the United States' new energy policies, introduced the research design of this paper, and explained the applicability of the research methods used in this paper. Based on the verification of the main hypotheses, Gao Ning introduced several heterogeneity tests of this paper and provided explanations, which helped the attending faculty and students to expand their thinking.

After the lecture and sharing session, Gao Ning patiently answered questions raised by the attending faculty and students. Regarding the experience of publishing papers, he believes that one should pay attention to the topic selection of the paper, while also focusing on both writing and empirical aspects, taking the detailed work related to the paper seriously, and polishing it carefully, so that academic papers truly have practical value and significance. Finally, Huang Zhen summarized the lecture, and the attending faculty and students benefited greatly.

Introduction to the Speaker:

Gao Ning is a Chair Professor of Finance at the Alliance Manchester Business School, Deputy Director of the Centre for Risk Analysis in Investment, and Director of Undergraduate Education. He is also an editor of the "Journal of Sustainable Finance and Accounting" (Elsevier) and a consultant to the China Institute at the University of Manchester. His research areas include corporate finance, sustainable finance, ESG risks, mergers and acquisitions, financial system information, and corporate governance. Professor Gao Ning is a member of the European Finance Association (EFA), Financial Management Association (FMA), American Finance Association (AFA), and Western Finance Association (WEA). He has served on the academic committees of the European Finance Association and Financial Management Association annual meetings and as a principal project expert for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). He is the founder and main organizer of the annual corporate finance conference led by four top universities in the Russell Group. He also serves as a reviewer for over 20 leading and internationally renowned journals in the fields of finance, accounting, and management.
